Composition for Game of Life WFS 192-speaker system at Wavefield Synthesis Festival, Amare, 2023
“ Beauty is owed to duration, to a contemplative synopsis. It is not a momentous brilliance or attraction, but an afterglow, a phosphorescence of things… Only in lingering contemplation, even an ascetic restraint, do things unveil their beauty, their fragrant essence.”
(Han, Byung-Chul. The Scent of Time: A Philosophical Essay on the Art of Lingering, 2017.)
The pace at which spatial attributes of a sound procedure evolve shapes our understanding of its structures and narrative progression. My piece for the WFS concert will be an experiment on the notion of duration in relation to how a sound procedure is perceived, and how it can afford to guide the listeners to navigate between listening modes. It studies the spatial behavior of sounds that hover on the border between being and procedere, as proposed by philosopher Byung-Chul Han.
